Twisted Staircase Wood and Metal String Puzzle

This is very poorly made. I can't tell if something is supposed to be able to move or if it just isn't sturdy. It did not come with any kind of instructions to tell you the object of the puzzle and the solution provided or five unclear pictures with arrows. I bought us as a gift but would be embarrassed to give it as one. I called customer service and they just referred me back to the solution sheet that I had just told him was inadequate
